Tonga tsunami: Families on their knees ‘praying for their relatives’

Tongans around the world are waiting for news of relatives following the volcanic explosion and tsunami that hit the Pacific island nation this weekend.

The authorities have not established any deaths, however damage to communications has made it difficult to confirm the scale of the knocking down. The brother of a British woman said she died following being swept away.

A censorious undersea cable connecting the Tonga to the outside world has been disconnected, leaving many people helpless to speak to loved ones for two days.
