Sierra Leonean Samuel Sorie Sesay who fought in World War Two, has died aged 101

The grandson of one of Sierra Leone’s last remaining World War II veterans has enthusiastically praised him as a very strong human being.

Pa Samuel Sorie Sesay died at the age of 101 on Monday.

His grandson John Konteh told the BBC’s Focus on Africa how he narrated many stories concerning the war – the two terror-trucking and funny.

“He represents a very strong personality and how they were able to scale all those challenges and survive and how they fought together,” he said.

Mr Konteh said his grandfather was able to talk till a week before his death notwithstanding could hear and nod till the last day.

“He recognized every one of his children,” he said.

Numerous Sierra Leoneans were sign-up by the British to fight in the Royal West African Frontier Force, which as well comprises of troops from Nigeria, Ghana, and The Gambia.
