An SUV driver was killed when his vehicle plunged off the Third Avenue Bridge and landed on its roofing a crash in connection with a reported drunken other motorist in The Bronx on Sunday morning, cops said.
The ill-fated driver of the Jeep Wrangler was merging into the southbound lanes of the Major Deegan Expressway from the East 135th Street entrance just before 5 a.m. when the vehicle smash into into an Audi A6 that was traveling south on the roadway, cops said.
The Jeep hit forcibly a concrete barrier and plummet the highway onto East 135th Street below, photos reveals.
The driver of the Jeep was declared dead on the scene.
Freddy Martinez, the 23-year-old Audi driver was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition and was apprehended and charged with driving while drunk and driving while under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Investigators were picking through the rubles to ascertain the SUV driver’s identity, a police spokesman said.
